Characters
Characters lists everyone in the universe, with their lifespan and status, and a filter by name. A character's page shows what was written about them and everything that follows from it: their family, their relationships, their allegiances and the entries that link to them.
What a character records
- Name, and a full name where it is longer.
- Born and died, as years, each with an optional note. A construct (a machine, a golem, anything made rather than born) is recorded as created and deactivated instead.
- Life status: alive, deceased, presumed dead, immortal or unknown; for a construct, active or deactivated. A lifespan with no years shows as not set rather than guessed.
- Background, personality, motivations, influence and notes, as prose.
- Traits (below), and a voice (below).
Parents and family
A character's parents are the only family link OnlyLore stores. Everything else is derived from them: children, siblings, half-siblings, co-parents, grandparents and every ancestor and descendant, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins to any degree and removal. Because none of these is written down separately, they can never disagree with the tree.
The Family (derived) section of a character's page lists them, and View this branch of the family tree opens the family tree centred on them. A character with no parent links recorded has no relatives to derive.
Relationships
Ties between two characters that are not family go under Relationships: mentor, enemy, creator, friend, rival, or any word you like. Types already used in the universe are suggested as you type. A relationship is directional when it reads one way (a mentor and their student, a creator and what they made), and symmetric when it reads the same both ways (friends, rivals). It can carry a description.
Allegiances
An allegiance says a character served a faction: their role in it (Member, Founder, Archbishop, Spy), when, whether it is a former allegiance (ended, even where no end year is recorded), and notes. A character can serve the same faction more than once: add a second allegiance rather than editing the first, so the earlier one stays on record.
Traits
Traits are short labels a character is described with, such as cunning, loyal or reckless, added under Edit. Traits already used in the universe are suggested as you type, and a new one is added by typing it out. They are kept apart from the personality prose on purpose: the prose says what a label cannot.
The Traits page lists the universe's whole vocabulary with how many characters share each trait, and each trait opens the list of everybody described that way.
Voice
A character can have a canon voice, so they sound the same in every game that uses them: the voice provider and the voice's id there, or, for a voice designed but not yet made, a description of how it should sound. A game can still give a character another voice.
Deleting a character
Deleting a character moves them to the recycle bin, with an Undo straight away. Restoring them brings back their family links, relationships and links with them.
